WASHINGTON, United States – Tumaas sa higit $100 kada bariles ang presyo ng langis, pinakamataas sa halos apat na taon, dahil sa lumalalang digmaan sa Middle East.
Tumalon ng higit 15% ang West Texas Intermediate (WTI) at Brent sa pagbubukas ng merkado.
Huminto ang maritime traffic sa Strait of Hormuz, na dumadaan ang 20% ng global crude at gas. Nagbaba rin ang output ng mga prodyuser sa Gulf, habang tinarget ng Israel ang fuel depots sa Tehran, na nagdulot ng takot sa posibleng atake sa imprastruktura ng mga karatig-bansa.
Dahil dito, tumaas ang presyo sa pump sa US, isang sensitibong isyu bago ang midterm elections.
Sinabi ni US President Donald Trump, “Short term oil prices, which will drop rapidly when the destruction of the Iran nuclear threat is over, is a very small price to pay for U.S.A., and World, Safety and Peace. ONLY FOOLS WOULD THINK DIFFERENTLY!”
Ayon sa US energy chief Chris Wright, “Worst case, that’s a few weeks. That’s not months. They shouldn’t go much higher than they are here because the world is very well supplied with oil. There’s no energy shortage in all of the Western hemisphere.” Sinabi rin niyang tutulungan ng US military ang mga tanker para makatawid sa Strait of Hormuz.
Iran ay responsable sa humigit-kumulang 4% ng produksyon ng langis sa mundo. Nagbabalak ang US na payagan ang India at iba pang bansa bumili ng Russian oil para mabawasan ang epekto sa presyo. RNT/MND
