NAVOTAS City Rep. Toby Tiangco has introduced a House and Senate joint resolution urging President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to temporarily suspend the collection of the Value-Added Tax on all fuel products during the ongoing crisis involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

“The continuing crisis is expected to cause significant increases in fuel prices, which will in turn also affect the price of basic commodities.”

“A temporary VAT suspension on fuel products is necessary to help consumers cope with the undue economic burden during this period of conflict,” he added.

Noting that Iran is an Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries member, the veteran lawmaker said that the conflict could pose a threat to global oil supply and market stability.

It is imperative for the national government to safeguard the welfare of the Filipino people by mitigating the economic impact of volatile fuel prices, said Tiangco, also a former long-time local chief executive.

Good Education Governance for 5th time

The city government has once again earned the Seal of Good Education Governance from Synergia Foundation, marking the fifth time it has received the recognition for its sustained efforts to improve education outcomes and strengthen local education governance.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco credited the recognition to the strong partnership among the local government, schools, parents, and community stakeholders.

“This recognition affirms that when the local government, schools, and families work together, we can create meaningful improvements in our children’s education. We remain committed to investing in programs that strengthen literacy, support teachers, and help every Navoteño learner succeed.”

Navotas Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Meliton Zurbano accepted the award alongside school officials during the 2026 National Educational Summit. Only three local government units in the National Capital Region were granted the distinction this year.

The city also ranked first among 16 NCR school divisions in the National Achievement Test for Grade 6 (SY 2024–2025).

In addition, Navotas posted the lowest dropout rate at 0.02 percent and the lowest repetition rate at 0.29 percent in the region.
