PUBLIC service rarely produces leaders who combine discipline, integrity and results. PBGen. Jessie Tamayao is one of those few.
I first came to know him when he served as Chief of Police of Malabon City. Even then, it was clear he was not an ordinary officer.
He led with quiet authority, pairing strategic thinking with a hands-on style that earned the respect of both his men and the community.
Under his leadership, Malabon posted notable improvements in crime solution efficiency and public safety.
The city became known as one of the more orderly areas in Metro Manila — a reflection of disciplined policing and thoughtful leadership.
Tamayao’s approach has always been simple but effective: plan carefully, lead by example and take care of the people doing the work.
Officers under his command often spoke of the professionalism he demanded and the support he consistently provided.
It is therefore fitting that he has been appointed Director of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group.
The appointment, supported by Interior Sec. Jonvic Remulla and PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio ‘Tateng’ Nartatez Jr., places him at the helm of one of the most visible operational units of the PNP.
The HPG plays a crucial role in enforcing traffic laws, maintaining road safety and ensuring order along the country’s major highways.
Managing nationwide operations requires coordination, discipline and decisive leadership. These are qualities Tamayao has demonstrated throughout his career.
As a fellow Ilocano from Cagayan Valley, I take pride in seeing one of our own entrusted with such responsibility. His rise through the ranks reflects years of dedication, perseverance and commitment to public service.
More importantly, his appointment represents confidence in his ability to raise standards and deliver meaningful reforms.
In the end, leadership is measured not simply by rank, but by impact. In his new post, Tamayao has the opportunity to strengthen road safety, inspire the officers under his command and continue serving the Filipino people with integrity.
