MANILA, Philippines – “Malinaw na delaying tactic lang.”
Ito ang reaksyon ni Bicol Saro Partylist Rep Terry Ridon sa inihaing petisyon sa Kprte Suprema na humihiling na pigilan ang House Justice Committee sa isinasagawa nitong impeachment proceeding laban kay Vice Presideng Sara Duterte.
Ayon kay Ridon ang mga abogado at kaalyado ni Vice President Sara Duterte ay walang “legal personality” para kuwestiyunin ang proceeding na ginagawa sa Kamara.
“Their claim of taxpayer status as basis for standing is misplaced. Taxpayer suits are recognized only in cases involving the illegal disbursement of public funds. No such disbursement is involved in impeachment proceedings,” paliwanag ni Ridon.
“This petition is a clear diversionary tactic designed to deflect from the impeachment proceedings now underway against the Vice President,” giit ng solon.
Aniya, hindi mapipigilan ng nasabing petisyon ang tungkulin ng komite na resolbahin ang impeachment complaint.
Pinagtanggol din ni Ridon ang aksyon ng komite na magpalabas ng subpoena sa mga dokumento na may kaugnayan sa reklamo.
“The subpoena of documents relevant to the grounds for impeachment is well within the authority of the House Committee on Justice under the 1987 Constitution and the House Rules on Impeachment, both of which expressly allow the conduct of hearings in aid of impeachment proceedings,” pahayag pa niya.
Malinaw din umano sa Saligang Batas at sa Rules na ang lahat ng mga ebidensya na kakailanganin sa isang proceeding ay dapat na iprisinta bilang bahagi ng pagestablisa ng katotohanan.
“We will proceed with the impeachment hearings as scheduled and we will continue to discharge our constitutional mandate until the conclusion of the proceedings,” dagdag pa ni Ridon.
Si Atty. Israelito Torreon sa kapasidad nito bilang taxpayer ay naghain ng petition for certiorari sa Korte Suprema kung saan kinuwestiyon nito ang legaldiad ng isinasagawang impeachment hearing ng House Committee on Justice, aniya, nagkaroon ng double standard nang ibasura ng komite ang impeachment complaint laban kay Pangulong Bongbong Marcos habang tinuloy naman ang impeachment laban kay Duterte.
