MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan ang mga advocate noong Biyernes, Abril 10, na dapat gumawa ang pamahalaan ng komprehensibong plano para tugunan ang pangangailangan ng mga Pilipino na may autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Ayon sa Autism Society Philippines (ASP), isa sa bawat 100 Pilipino ay may autism.
Ibinahagi ng grupo na may mga kakulangan pa sa serbisyo at maraming panukalang batas—hindi bababa sa 26—ang nakabinbin pa sa House of Representatives.
Layunin ng mga panukala na gawing institusyonal ang access sa serbisyo, palakasin ang suporta, at tiyakin ang lifelong inclusion sa edukasyon, kalusugan, trabaho, at komunidad.
“We need a government with a plan to address the needs of our growing and aging community, from the national government to the LGUs,” ani ASP spokesperson Mona Magno-Veluz.
Dagdag niya, bagama’t may mga nagawang progreso para sa sektor ng persons with disability, kailangan pang palakasin ang mga pampublikong serbisyo para sa mga nasa autism spectrum.
“Filipinos on the spectrum and their families will benefit from responsive systems and policies that promote acceptance, provide meaningful accommodations, and celebrate their strengths—enabling them to fully thrive,” aniya.
Kasabay nito, naghahanda ang ASP at SM Cares para sa nationwide Angels Walk for Autism 2026 na inaasahang lalahukan ng mahigit 40,000 katao.
Ayon sa mga organizer, mahalaga na ang inclusion ay hindi lamang awareness kundi dapat may konkretong oportunidad tulad ng inclusive education at employment.
“It is important to sustain efforts that improve the well-being of Filipinos on the autism spectrum,” ani Engr. Junias Eusebio ng SM Supermalls.
“Working hand in hand with the government and organizations like the ASP, we build disability-inclusive spaces and make equitable employment possible so those on the spectrum can thrive.”
Ayon naman kay celebrity at ASP goodwill ambassador Michelle Dee, mahalaga ang tuloy-tuloy na suporta para sa kalayaan at pag-unlad ng mga nasa spectrum.
“Responsive autism policy strengthens families by reducing everyday barriers. It shifts the narrative from dependence to empowerment—equipping families with the tools, opportunities, and dignity,” aniya.
“Inclusion means making sure they are seen, supported, and not left to do this alone,” dagdag niya.
Gaganapin ang culminating event ng Angels Walk for Autism 2026 sa SM Mall of Asia Arena sa Abril 26, habang patuloy ang panawagan para sa mas malakas na polisiya at pangmatagalang plano para sa autism inclusion. RNT/MND
