MANILA, Philippines – Bukas ang House prosecution sa pagtalakay ng Senado kung ilang boto ng senator-judges ang kailangan para mahatulan si Vice President Sara Duterte sa impeachment trial.
Ayon kay House prosecutor at Bukidnon Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores, mahalagang makakuha ng opinyon mula sa mga eksperto tungkol sa tamang threshold, ngunit pangunahing prayoridad pa rin ng prosekusyon ang pagpapalakas ng ebidensya laban kay VP Sara.
“Tama lang iyan na we call on experts who will be presenting their opinions, be it for or against the changes in the number sa threshold. Mas mabuti na rin iyong hihingi tayo ng tulong or ng opinion ng mga experts in this particular field para mas properly guided po iyong senator-judges natin on how to determine the threshold.”
Iginiit ni Flores na hindi dapat makaagaw ng pokus sa prosekusyon ang usapin sa threshold dahil ang magiging batayan ng kaso ay ang lakas ng ebidensyang iniharap.
“I think we will rise and fall based on the evidence that we have presented. So, it’s not really kung ilan iyong threshold, but it’s the strength of our evidence that we presented,” ani Flores.
Lumutang ang isyu matapos hilingin ni Senator-Judge Erwin Tulfo na agad resolbahin ng impeachment court kung mananatili sa 16 boto ang kailangan para sa conviction at kung apat na senador ang hindi maaaring bumoto.
Nauna nang nagdesisyon si Presiding Officer Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero na 16 sa 24 senador ang kailangan para ma-convict si VP Sara, alinsunod sa Saligang Batas.
Tatalakayin ng Senado ang threshold sa Setyembre 16 sa tulong ng amici curiae o “friends of the court,” bago ang oral arguments ng prosekusyon at depensa sa Setyembre 23.
Sinabi naman ni House prosecution spokesperson at counsel Benjamin “Jay” Tolosa Jr. na igagalang ng panel ang itinakdang proseso at panahon ng impeachment court.
“We will leave the matter entirely to the discretion of the impeachment court. Kahit 16 iyan or kung anumang number iyan, basta nagpresenta kami ng malakas na ebidensya, dapat makukuha namin iyan,” ani Tolosa. Meliza Maluntag
