MANILA, Philippines — Nakatanggap din ang Bureau of Immigration ng impormasyon hinggil sa umano’y plano ni dating House Speaker Martin Romualdez na umalis ng bansa, ngunit hindi natuloy ang sinasabing biyahe.
“We received information that there were plans that did not push through,” sinabi ni BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval sa isang text message nitong Martes.
Ayon kay Sandoval, batid ng kampo ni Romualdez ang umiiral na derogatory records laban sa kanya at ang mga posibleng travel restriction.
“The concerned party’s camp is aware of the existing derogatory records and the applicable restrictions. Should there be any actual attempt to depart, the Bureau will enforce the law accordingly,” aniya.
Kasunod ito ng pagsisiwalat ng Office of the Ombudsman na umano’y ilang beses nang nagtangkang umalis ng Pilipinas si Romualdez sa kabila ng Precautionary Hold Departure Order na inilabas ng Sandiganbayan.
Kabilang si Romualdez sa mga iniimbestigahan ng Ombudsman kaugnay ng umano’y katiwalian sa mga flood control project.
“Despite a Precautionary Hold Departure Order issued by the Sandiganbayan, this office has received credible intelligence reports that former Speaker, Martin Romualdez, has not ceased attempting to leave the country,” sinabi ni Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano sa isang briefing nitong Lunes.
Pinaalalahanan ng Ombudsman ang mga law enforcement agency at border control officer na bantayan ang mga hangganan ng bansa at tiyaking mananatili sa Pilipinas si Romualdez.
Itinanggi naman ni Elaine Atienza, spokesperson ni Romualdez, na nagtangkang umiwas sa mga awtoridad ang kongresista. Iginiit niyang nasa bansa si Romualdez at handang harapin ang imbestigasyon.
“Kailanman at hindi nagtago si Rep. Romualdez. Hinarap nya ang ICI [Independent Commission for Infrastructure], at haharapin nya ang Office of the Ombudsman. Siya po ay nasa bansa at mananatili sa bansa until such time that he will be able to clear his name,” sinabi ni Atienza sa isang pahayag nitong Lunes. Dave Baluyot
