MANILA, Philippines – Ayon kay Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero ay naaayon kay neophyte Senador Rodante Marcoleta ang chairmanship ng Senate blue ribbon committee sa kabila ng mga aligasyon na ibinigay ito sa kanya upang makuha ang suporta ng mga kaalyado ni Duterte.
Ibinasura ni Escudero ang aligasyon nang tanungin tungkol sa desisyon ng Senado ukol dito.
“He’s a litigator. He’s a practicing lawyer and I think, neophyte or not, he will do a good job as a blue ribbon committee chairperson and raise the flag of the institution through his stewardship of this committee,” ayon kay SP Escudero.
“I think it would be unfair, to say the least, to belittle the abilities of someone just because they’re new or young, and to assume that those who are older are automatically more capable,” dagdag pa niya.
Si Marcoleta at anim niyang kasamahan sa tinaguriang “Duter7” bloc ay bumoto para muling ihalal si Escudero noong Lunes bilang Senate president. Sa 19 na boto, nanalo si Escudero laban kay Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, na nakakuha lamang ng limang boto.
Ang anim pang miyembro ng “Duter7” bloc ay sina Senators “Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Christopher “Bong” Go, Robin Padilla, Imee Marcos at ang magkapatid na Camille at Mark Villar.
Ipinagtanggol din ni Escudero ang mga chairmanship ng iba pang komite, na aniya ay pinili batay sa kanilang mga adbokasiya at pangunahing kakayahan.
Tulad nina Senator Francis Pangilinan at Bam Aquino, binigyan sila ng committees on agriculture and basic education dahil ang mga panel na ito ay nakahanay sa kanilang mga plataporma noong sila ay nangampanya noong nakaraang halalan, paliwanag ng Senate President.
Sina Pangilinan at Aquino, na tumakbo bilang mga kandidato ng oposisyon, ay bumoto upang muling ihalal si Escudero at ngayon ay bahagi na ng majority bloc sa Senado.
“In the cases of the others, they were former executive department officials handling those offices. So we tried to make do with the available talent we have in the Senate. So it’s not really a question of giving them this or that,” saad ni Escudero. RNT/MND
