MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Bureau of Quarantine ng Department of Health (DOH-BOQ) nitong Sabado na wala pang naitatala o nadedetect na kaso ng Nipah virus sa Pilipinas, at tiniyak na may mga umiiral na hakbang para maprotektahan ang publiko.
Sinabi ni BOQ officer-in-charge Dr. Roberto Salvador na 24/7 ang pagbabantay ng ahensya sa mga pasahero sa mga pantalan at paliparan.
“As of now, since the issue about Nipah [virus] rose, we haven’t monitored or intercepted the virus even from those arriving from the direct flight from India,” ani Salvador.
“Like what we said, the BOQ is monitoring the passengers 24/7 to ensure that the virus will not enter and spread in the country,” dagdag niya.
Ayon kay Salvador, malaking tulong ang e-Travel system sa pagsubaybay sa mga biyaherong dumarating, lalo na ang mga galing sa India, kung saan dalawang kaso ng Nipah virus ang naitala kamakailan.
Ipinaliwanag din ng DOH na may proactive measures sa mga port at airport, tulad ng infrared thermal scanners, mga BOQ nurse na nagmo-monitor ng temperatura, at mga spotter na tumitingin sa posibleng sintomas tulad ng rashes.
“We are strengthening our surveillance and monitoring if they have fever and our spotters are trained to assess additional signs and symptoms if they did not declare the right information in the e-travel app,” sabi ni Salvador.
Pinaalalahanan niya ang publiko na mag-ingat kapag bumibiyahe sa ibang bansa.
“It is important to remember that if you are travelling abroad, educate yourself in the possible diseases you can contact from there. Always remember the standard precaution: wear a face mask, wash your hands, social distance to prevent being infected if we are exposed to the disease abroad,” ani Salvador.
Samantala, sinabi ni DOH spokesperson Dr. Albert Domingo na huling naitala ang Nipah virus sa Pilipinas noong 2014, at patuloy pa rin itong mino-monitor ng DOH Epidemiology Bureau.
Ayon sa health ministry ng India, dalawang kaso ng Nipah virus ang kanilang naitala, ngunit 196 na close contacts ang nagnegatibo sa testing. RNT/MND
