MANILA, Philippines – Matagumpay na lumahok ang BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-6), isa sa pinakamodernong guided-missile frigate ng Philippine Navy (PN), sa air defense drills ng Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercises sa karagatan ng Hawaii.
Ayon sa Philippine Navy, nakasama ng BRP Miguel Malvar ang RSS Steadfast (FFG-70) ng Singapore at ang mga destroyer ng US Navy na USS Paul Hamilton (DDG-60) at USS Carl M. Levin (DDG-120) sa defensive counter-air (DCA) at RAIDEX exercises noong Hulyo 16.
Lumahok din sa pagsasanay ang mga eroplano ng US Navy tulad ng F-35 Lightning II, F/A-18 Hornets, at Hawker Hunter fighter/bombers.
Matapos ang DCA drills, ang BRP Miguel Malvar ang namuno sa task group sa RAIDEX. Nagpalitan din ang mga barko sa tungkulin bilang anti-air warfare (AAW) coordinator upang subukan ang kanilang kakayahan sa command and control.
“Anchoring in this iteration’s theme, ‘Partners: Integrated and Prepared,’ RIMPAC allows the PN to refine its tactics, techniques, and procedures and develop the muscle memory of its CIC (combat information center) team during a fast-phased AAW combat scenario, as it continues to reinforce its role as a credible and reliable maritime partner committed to regional peace and security,” ayon sa PH Navy.
Ang RIMPAC ay isang biennial naval exercise na pinamumunuan ng US Indo-Pacific Command. Nagsimula ito noong Hunyo 24 at magtatapos sa Hulyo 31. RNT/MDS
