CIDG READY AGAINST ‘3-G’ ELECTION THREAT

AS the 2025 midterm elections draw near, the familiar specter of the “three-Gs” — guns, goons, and gold — once again looms over the democratic process.

These illicit tools, long used by unscrupulous politicians to secure victory by any means necessary, continue to pose a significant challenge to free and fair elections.

The use of violence, private armed groups and bribery has plagued the country’s elections for decades. Despite strict laws against such practices, those desperate for power still resort to coercion, manipulation, and outright lawlessness.

Their objective is clear: to create an atmosphere of fear and disorder, tilting the electoral outcome in their favor.

However, the Philippine National Police, particularly its Criminal Investigation and Detection Group is determined to thwart these tactics.

PNP Chief PGen. Rommel Marbil has assured the public that law enforcement agencies are already taking decisive action to neutralize threats before they can undermine the elections.

Under the leadership of PBGen. Nicolas Torre III, the CIDG has intensified its crackdown on criminal elements, focusing on dismantling private armed groups and preventing election-related violence.

These efforts are crucial, as hired goons and illicit funds often play a pivotal role in voter intimidation and electoral fraud.

Recent operations demonstrate the CIDG’s proactive stance. In January alone, the group successfully apprehended 1,177 criminals and wanted individuals.

Their operations also led to the confiscation of 139 firearms, six explosives, and over 1,300 rounds of assorted ammunition, alongside other evidence valued at nearly P100 million.

The CIDG’s commitment to curbing election-related violence sends a strong message: those who engage in the ‘3-G’ playbook will be held accountable.

With a firm and proactive approach, authorities aim to ensure a fair and peaceful electoral process, free from the corrupting influence of violence and intimidation.

As the nation moves closer to the 2025 polls, the challenge remains daunting.

But with the unwavering resolve of law enforcement, supported by vigilant communities and responsible governance, there is hope that the dark shadow of the ‘3-Gs’ will not define yet another election cycle.
