IN a major operation, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group has dealt a severe blow to a counterfeit syndicate in Parañaque City, seizing P121.4 million worth of fake Apple products.
This victory underscores the CIDG’s ongoing commitment to protecting Filipino consumers from the growing threat of counterfeit goods, which are often sold under the guise of high-end brands like Apple.
The operation led to the arrest of two individuals, identified only by their aliases “Cary” and “Fred”, who were allegedly distributing counterfeit iPhones, MacBooks, and other Apple accessories.
These products, marketed as genuine, were in fact substandard knockoffs that posed significant risks in terms of safety, performance and long-term reliability.
CIDG Director PBGen. Romeo Macapaz, along with PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre, has strongly condemned the illegal trade in counterfeit goods.
Macapaz stated, “This operation is a clear demonstration of our determination to safeguard the public from fraud and ensure the integrity of the marketplace.”
The successful raid is part of the CIDG’s broader effort to dismantle counterfeit networks that compromise both consumer trust and safety.
This operation is also a critical reminder to consumers about the importance of vigilance when purchasing tech products.
Counterfeit items often appear tempting due to their lower prices, but they come with serious risks. Without proper safety standards and after-sales support, fake gadgets can malfunction or even cause harm.
Although the arrested suspects’ identities were withheld for legal reasons, this bust serves as a strong message to illegal traders that the government is taking firm action.
Kudos to the CIDG and PNP leadership for their swift and decisive action, ensuring that consumers are protected from harmful counterfeit goods.
This raid is a step forward in creating a safer, more reliable market for everyone.
