WESTERN Visayas is once again at a critical crossroads in the fight against street-level crime, where data-driven policing is becoming as important as boots on the ground.
The recent anti-criminality efforts of Police Regional Office 6 highlight a strategy anchored on discipline, visibility and timely response.
From January to April, focus on crime incidents fluctuated from 147 in January, down to 132 in February, rising again to 172 in March, and easing to 143 in April.
While the pattern shows volatility, it also reflects a police force actively adjusting deployments based on real-time conditions rather than static assumptions.
More encouraging is the recent monitoring report showing zero focus crime incidents on May 22 and May 25, with only one case of physical injury recorded on May 26.
These figures suggest that intensified police visibility and targeted operations may already be producing measurable results, even in the short term.
PRO6 director PBGen. Randulf TuaƱo has emphasized that sustained improvements require consistency in policy enforcement, stronger community partnerships and a policing approach that is both responsive and humane.
His call for a police presence that is felt not only in enforcement but also in public trust underscores a shift toward community-centered security.
The challenge now for PRO6 is not only to reduce crime statistics but to sustain peace that communities can genuinely feel.
If current momentum is maintained, Western Visayas may well become a model for adaptive, accountable and transformative regional policing in the country.
Ultimately, sustained success will depend on discipline in implementation, community cooperation and unwavering commitment to evidence-based policing across all provinces of Western Visayas.
Consistency will define long-term peace and stability regionwide.
