MANILA, Philippines – Humihiling ang Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) sa mga government financial institutions na alisin o pansamantalang itigil ang penalties sa mga naantalang bayad sa utang para sa modern jeepneys, dahil sa epekto ng tensyon sa Middle East sa sektor ng transportasyon.
Sumulat si LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II sa Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), kung saan maraming operator ang umutang para sa modern jeepney sa ilalim ng Program Assistance to Support Alternative Driving Approaches (PASADA).
“We fully understand the situation of the public transport sector this time so we are exerting efforts to provide all the necessary assistance to them to ease their burden. So we wrote a letter to the DBP to ask them for a temporary suspension or waiver of penalties imposed on the outstanding loan obligations of transport service entities (TSEs),” ani Mendoza.
Sa liham kay DBP President at CEO Michael De Jesus, ipinaliwanag ni Mendoza na ang pagtaas ng presyo ng gasolina at iba pang produktong petrolyo ay nagdulot ng dagdag na pasanin sa pananalapi ng mga transport service entities, na nakaapekto sa kanilang operasyon.
Dahil dito, nahihirapan ang ilang operator na nakinabang sa PASADA Program na makasunod sa iskedyul ng pagbabayad ng utang.
“In this regard, the undersigned would like to respectfully request the temporary suspension or waiver of penalties imposed on the loan obligations of transport service entities,” ayon sa liham.
“Such assistance would greatly help transport operators stabilize their financial standing and continue providing essential public transport services to the communities they serve,” dagdag pa nito.
Noong Marso 26, sinabi ni Mendoza na bukas ang DBP sa kahilingan ng LTFRB, na isa sa mga ahensyang nangangasiwa sa Public Transportation Modernization Program (PTMP).
Ayon sa DBP, alam nila ang epekto ng tensyon sa Middle East lalo na sa mga bansang umaasa sa imported na langis tulad ng Pilipinas.
Sinabi rin ng bangko na ang krisis ay nagdulot ng pagtaas ng presyo ng langis sa buong mundo at paghina ng piso, na nagpalaki ng gastos sa operasyon ng transport sector at nagdulot ng problemang pinansyal sa mga operator.
“Please be informed that as a government financial institution and staunch partner of the national government in the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP), DBP may consider granting of temporary suspension or waiver of penalties on a case-to-case basis, subject to approval of the approving authorities,” ayon sa DBP.
Nagpasalamat si Mendoza sa DBP sa pagiging bukas sa kahilingan, at sinabing malaking tulong ito sa mga operator na nahihirapan dahil sa mataas na gastos sa operasyon.
“This is another proof that the national government is indeed working together, joining forces to extend all the assistance that it could provide to the people, especially the transport sector,” aniya.
“We express gratitude to the DBP for its genuine concerns to the transport sector. On the part of the LTFRB, we remain committed to fulfilling our financial obligations and maintaining a cooperative relationship with the DBP,” dagdag niya. RNT/MND
