MANILA, Philippines – Kumpiyansa si dating Senador Leila de Lima na mag-iisyu ang International Criminal Court ng warrants of arrest laban kay dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at iba pa dahil sa paglabag sa international humanitarian law sa kabila ng paglikha ng special body na mag-iimbestiga at maghahain ng kaukulang criminal charges sa mga korte sa Pilipinas.
Ani De Lima, maaari lamang magrekomenda ang Special Task Force ng Department of Justice ng mga kasong ihahain laban kay Duterte at hindi ito maaaring sumali sa ICC sa pagpapanagot at paglilitis sa dating Pangulo.
Ang task force ay binigyan ng 60 araw para mag-imbestiga, magsagawa ng case buildup, at maghain ng kaukulang mga reklamo.
“It is the right of the people to be properly informed about crimes against humanity and yes, locally we have already a law, Republic Act 9851, that punishes crimes against international humanitarian law, genocide, and other related crimes against humanity,” pahayag ni De Lima.
“One of my recommendations, when I attended the quad-committee hearings in the House of Representatives, is the filing of charges against persons of the highest responsibility, notably Duterte, in their bloody drug war,” dagdag ng dating senador.
Aniya, ang domestic version ng Rome Statute ay ipinasa bago pa naging miyembro ang Pilipinas ng ICC noong 2011.
“I attempted to investigate when I was still in the Senate but after three hearings, especially when I presented a vital witness in the person of Edgar Matobato, they stripped me of my chairmanship in the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights.”
Samantala, nagpasalamat si De Lima sa quad-committee sa pagbibigay ng oportunidad at lakas ng loob sa ilang mga witness at pamilya ng mga biktima ng EJK na magbahagi ng kanilang mga karanasan kaugnay sa drug war ni Duterte. RNT/JGC
