MANILA, Philippines- Itinuturing ni Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo na ‘inconsistent’ sa United Nation Convention on the Law of the Seas (UNCLOS) ang regulasyon ng Tsina na nagbibigay-kapangyarihan sa coast guard nito (Tsina) para iditine ang sinumang foreign national na manghihimasok sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Sa isang panayam, tinanong si Manalo kung ano ang magiging reaksyon nito sa sinabi ng Tsina na ang Pilipinas ay mayroong malisyosong interpretasyon sa bagong regulasyon ng Tsina sa rehiyon.
”Why would… they announced it, it was quite clear so, I mean, what’s malicious to it…” ayon kay Manalo.
”We have to see what will happen but obviously whatever they said, if that’s correct, is inconsistent with UNCLOS,” dagdag ng opisyal.
Hindi naman nagdagdag pa ng kahit na anong detalye si Manalo sa usaping ito.
Nauna rito, mariing kinondena ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. “detainment order.”
Para sa Pangulo, ang nasabing aksyon o hakbang “would be completely unacceptable to the Philippines.”
Para naman kay dating Senate president Juan Miguel Zubiri, ilegal sa ilalim ng UNCLOS ang bagong regulasyon ng Tsina para sa iditine ang sinumang foreign national dahil sa trespassing sa rehiyon.
Sinabi ni Zubiri na “UNCLOS provides for free and open access to all ships passing through South China Sea, which includes areas that fall under the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone.” Kris Jose
