MYANMAR – Aktibong hinahanap ng Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) ang mga Filipino na nawawala pa rin kasunod ng magnitude 7.7 na lindol na tumama sa Myanmar, partikular na ang apat na gurong Pinoy na pinaniniwalaang nasa loob ng isang gusali nang mangyari ang lindol.
“We have guaranteed the families our utmost support and assistance,” ani DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac.
“The President has instructed us to take action, and he has also provided reassurance that we will effectively coordinate with our embassy on-site through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), as well as with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), which is leading our 92-member team that the President has dispatched to Myanmar as of last night.”
Ang team na ipinadala para tumulong sa search and rescue efforts ay binubuo ng mga eksperto na handang mag-alok ng iba’t ibang uri ng suporta katulad ng medical care.
“We aim to help not only in locating the missing four but also for any other Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who may require any form of aid, medical or otherwise, while in Myanmar,” dagdag ni Cacdac.
Nakikipag-ugnayan ang DMW sa mga pamilya ng nawawalang mga guro at siniguro na magbibigay din ito ng financial aid.
“What has been particularly moving—heartwarming in conversations with the families—is that they come from very humble backgrounds. The teachers need all the support and guidance they can get as they navigate these distressing times. Part of our assistance includes providing them with financial help at this stage,” ayon pa sa kalihim.
Tinutugunan naman ng Philippine embassy sa Yangon ang hiling na repatriation ng iba pang mga Filipino sa Myanmar.
“I’m confident our embassy in Yangon is diligently working on this matter. We at the DMW are prepared to offer the necessary support.”
Bagamat walang Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) ang DMW sa Myanmar, isinasagawa ang komunikasyon sa pamamagitan ng Philippine labor attaché na naka-base sa Bangkok. RNT/JGC
