MANILA, Philippines – MULING inulit ng Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. ang commitment ng departamento para protektahan ang soberanya ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
“As we observe this year’s MANA Mo, the DND stands with our people in protecting our patrimony. In the face of attempts to undermine our sovereignty and territorial integrity, especially in the WPS, we remain resolute in our stand against coercion and manipulation,” ang sinabi ni Teodoro sa kanyang mensahe para sa pagdiriwang ng “Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month” (MANA Mo) 2025 ngayong Setyembre.
Habang ang Pilipinas na mayroong mayamang maritime territories, sinabi ni Teodoro na dapat na magkaisa ang mga Filipino at idepensa ito para ipreserba ang tinatawag na ‘archipelagic way of life’ ng bansa.
“Let us be united in defending our Filipino way of life, proud of our heritage as an archipelagic nation, and determined to secure our maritime domain for generations yet to come,” ang sinabi ng Kalihim.
Sinabi pa ni Teodoro na ang kasaganaan ng archipelagic terrain ng Pilipinas at ang kalawakan ng ocean spaces nito “are indelible parts of our identity as a people.”
Ang Proclamation No. 316, ipinalabas noong 2017, idineklara ang Setyembre bilang “Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month” o MANA Mo.
Ang proklamasyon ay nakaayon sa Article XII, Section 2 ng Konstitusyon, na nagsasaad na ang estado ay may mandato na protektahan ang marine wealth ng bansa sa ‘archipelagic waters, territorial sea, at exclusive economic zone nito, at ipreserba ang paggamit nito ekslusibo para sa mga mamamayang Filipino.
