MANILA, Philippines – Humarap si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa International Criminal Court sa pamamagitan ng video link, para harapin ang mga alegasyon ng pagpatay mula sa kanyang war on drugs.
Ayon kay ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah, si Duterte ay nasa detention center habang ang kanyang counsel ay pisikal na dumalo sa korte.
Sinabi ni Presiding Judge Iulia Motoc sa korte na pinayagan si Duterte na dumalo ng sesyon sa pamamagitan ng video link dahil pagod ito mula sa paglipad mula sa Pilipinas patungong The Netherlands kasunod ng pagkakaaresto nito.
Aniya, si Duterte ay nagkaroon ng “long journey with considerable time difference.”
Sa naturang sesyon ay binasa kay Duterte ang mga reklamong inihain laban sa kanya na may kaugnayan sa mga pagpatay sa war on drugs ng kanyang administrasyon.
Ipinaalam din kay Duterte ang kanyang mga karapatan sa ilalim ng Rome Statute.
Nagsimula ang proceedings ng 2:34 ng hapon at nagtapos ng 2:59 ng hapon.
Ang susunod na pagdinig sa kumpirmasyon ng mga kaso ay itinakda sa Setyembre 23, 2025.
“After assessing all factors, including the need for the parties and participants to adequately prepare, as well as Mr. Duterte’s rights, including his right to be tried within a reasonable time, the date for the commencement of the confirmation of charges hearing is September 23, 2025,” ani Motoc.
“I would add that in accordance with Rule 1217 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence, this date may be postponed by the Chamber depending on the progress of the proceedings, either on its own motion or at the request of the prosecutor or the defense,” dagdag niya. RNT/JGC
