MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ni Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Markus Lacanilao na walang problema kung magagalit sa kanya ang mga drayber ng electric vehicle kung kaligtasan naman ng mga ito ang nakasalalay.
Ani Lacanilao, ito ay kasunod ng anunsyo nila na simula bukas, Disyembre 1 ay huhulihin at mai-impound na ang mga electric bikes at tricycles (e-bikes, e-trikes) na bumabagtas sa mga pangunahing kalsada.
“We understand that many of our countrymen will be angry, but our priority here is their security, their safety, and safety on the road—that they will not have accidents,” sinabi ni Lacanilao.
“So I said in my other interviews, it is okay if you are going to get angry with me, at least your children and your spouse will be able to go home safely, rather than having accidents because of the misuse of these e-trikes on national highways,” dagdag pa niya.
Nang tanungin kung may datos ang LTO sa bilang ng mga aksidente sangkot ang mga e-vehicle, sinabi ni Lacanilao na, “Yes. We will provide data on that.”
“The Philippine National Police also has data on how many accidents there are, concerns about e-bikes nationwide,” ayon pa sa opisyal.
Dagdag pa ng LTO chief, ang parusa sa mga e-vehicle na makikita sa mga pangunahing kalsada simula Lunes ay pagka-impound, at sinabing “they do not have driver’s licenses.”
“The old admin order will just be revived. But not everything can be registered. Why? Because there are safety concerns. Not all e-bikes are capable of being used by the public. Why? Because of safety concerns.”
Wala namang impoundment na magaganap sa mga e-vehicle sa mga secondary road simula Lunes.
“These are our information drives, so they don’t run them on national highways to prevent accidents,” ani Lacanilao.
“If your e-vehicle runs on a secondary road, inform them that ‘that is no longer allowed,’ as if to conduct an information drive with them there,” dagdag pa niya.
