MANILA, Philippines – Hindi nagpatinag si Senate President Francis Escudero sa mga nananawagan na madaliin na ang pagsisimula ng impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
Nanindigan si Escudero na ang Senado ay magpapatuloy sa iskedyul nito para dinggin ang pagpapakilala ng mga reklamo laban kay Duterte ng House of Representatives panel of prosecutors at magku-convene ang Senado bilang impeachment court pagsapit ng Hunyo 11.
“I’ve said this from the beginning: Whether someone is for or against the impeachment, whether they support VP Sara or oppose her — I will not listen to them,” ani Escudero sa press briefing sa Senado.
“I will do what is right, proper, and in accordance with the Constitution and the law, based on what I believe is right,” dagdag pa niya.
Ang pahayag ni Escudero ay nang tanungin siya kung nakakaramdam ba ito ng pressure kasunod ng kabi-kabilang panawagan ng publiko at iba’t ibang grupo na agad nang tugunan ang impeachment case laban kay Duterte.
“They want us to rush our constitutional duty.”
“We will fulfill our duty, but not according to their timeline simply because they are in a rush. As I’ve said, this is a process that must be followed—and we are following it. It will not proceed on their terms, nor at a time they have chosen,” sinabi ni Escudero. RNT/JGC
