MANILA, Philippines – Walang kinalaman si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa pagkaantala ng presentation ng Articles of Impeachment ng House prosecution panel laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte sa Senado, sinabi ni Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero nitong Lunes, Hunyo 2.
Sa press conference, ipinaliwanag ni Escudero na ang desisyon ay kasunod ng pagpupulong ng Legislative-Executive Development Council (LEDAC) noong Huwebes, Mayo 29, sa konsultasyon sa ilang mga senador.
“No, it did not,” anang Senate President nang tanungin kung ang suspensyon ay batay sa direktiba ng Pangulo.
“I was not even able to tell Martin, the Speaker, about that. He found out through the letter that I sent him,” dagdag pa niya.
Wala rin aniyang kinalaman ang delay sa kanyang pagnanais na ipagpatuloy ang Senate leadership sa 20th Congress.
“I don’t see the connection whatsoever. No…It has nothing to do, especially given the fact that the 20th Congress will have a totally different composition,” ani Escudero.
Matatandaan na noong nakaraang linggo ay inanunsyo ni Escudero na inilipat sa Hunyo 11 mula sa Hunyo 2 ang petsa ng pagbasa ng
impeachment raps laban kay Duterte.
“June 11, ipe-present ng Kamara ang Articles of Impeachment—paguusapan, pagde-debatihan, at kung wala ay ire-refer ‘yan sa committee of rules na magsisilbing senyal at hudyat para i-create ang impeachment court sa [June] 11 din,” sinabi ni Escudero.
“Susumpa kami, iko-convene ang impeachment court, mag-aapprove ng rules, at magi-issue ng summons. Doon magwawakas ang procedure na gagawin sa ilalim ng 19th Congress sa June 11,” dagdag pa niya. RNT/JGC
