MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan ang Office of Civil Defense (OCD) sa transportation authorities na imbestigahan ang mga report kaugnay sa umano’y paglobo ng mga passenger at cargo air fares sa Eastern Visayas, partikular na sa mga rutang patungo sa Ormoc at Tacloban sa Leyte, at Catarman sa Northern Samar.
Sa pahayag nitong Lunes, Hunyo 2, sinabi ng OCD na ipinasa na nito ang apela sa Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), at Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
Sa liham kay DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno, nagpahayag ito ng pangamba kaugnay sa pinakabagong restriksyon sa San Juanico Bridge na maaaring dahilan ng paglobo ng halaga ng mga pamasahe.
“We respectfully appeal to the CAB and the CAAP to immediately look into this matter and implement appropriate legal measures to thwart or regulate these purported air fare and cargo fare increases,” ani Nepomuceno.
Ipinauubaya na rin ng OCD chief sa mga ahensyang ito ang iba pang remedyo katulad ng pagdaragdag ng bilang ng flight sa mga paliparan sa rehiyon katulad ng Ormoc, Calbayog, at Catarman.
“Considering the size of these airports, runway capacity, and night-rated navigation ability, we hope other similar options could be discussed to decongest Tacloban Airport,” dagdag niya. RNT/JGC
