MANILA, Philippines – Nakapagtala na naman ng bagong record ang temperatura ng mga karagatan sa mundo.
Pumalo kasi sa 20.96 degrees Celsius ang average global ocean surface temperature sa pagtatapos ng Hulyo, ayon sa datos mula sa
European Union – Copernicus Climate Change Service, mas mataas sa dating rekord na 20.95 degrees Celsius na naitala noong 2016.
Ayon sa mga eksperto, dapat paghandaan ng mundo ang tumataas na temperatura ng karagatan dahil sa pagdating ng El Nino.
Ani Kaitlin Naughten, oceanographer sa British Antarctic Survey, nakakaalarma ang datos mula sa Copernicus na sumasalamin sa lagay ng mga karagatan.
“Other datasets may give slightly different values – for example, [the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] is reporting that last April was still very slightly warmer than now,” pagbabahagi ni Naughten sa panayam ng CNN.
Ang malinaw umano ay, “that current sea surface temperatures are exceptionally and unseasonably warm” and bringing wide-ranging implications, “especially for complex ecosystems such as coral reefs.”
