Halos 2,000 flood, landslide-prone barangays tinukoy ng MGB

MANILA, Philippines- Tinukoy ng Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) ang 1,955 flood at landslide-flood-prone barangays kasunod ng pananalasa ni Severe Tropical Storm Kristine at binalaan ang publiko na mag-ingat sa gitna ni Tropical Storm Leon.

Sa threat advisory nitong Linggo, sinabi ng MGB na nakapagtala ang Cagayan ng pinakamaraming bilang ng flood at landslide-flood-prone barangays sa 802.

Matatagpuan ang iba pang apektadong barangay sa mga lalawigan ng Batanes, Isabela, Negros Oriental, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, at Negros Occidental.

“Although some provinces mentioned in Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) advisories to be affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine are not included in the current list, they are still advised to activate the appropriate preparedness measures and monitor for future geohazard advisories, should there be any sudden changes in the rainfall forecast or weather conditions,” anang MGB.

Saklaw ng threat advisory ang period mula October 27 hanggang November 1.

Tinukoy ang mga barangay bilang flood at landslide-flood-prone base sa 100 millimeter (GSM) at 150 mm Weather Research and Forecasting model rainfall threshold values.

“It is advised that all local government units (LGUs), Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils, as well as the communities to remain vigilant for possible occurrence of landslides, flood/flash flood and or debris flow in their respective Areas of Responsibility,” batay sa MGB.

Inirerekomenda ng MGB na magsagawa ang mga apektadong barangay ng pre-emptive evacuation protocols para sa mga residente sakaling kailanganin. RNT/SA
