MANILA, Philippines – Ibinulgar ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri na hiniling umano ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kay Chinese President Xi Jinping na “to look kindly to the Philippines” hinggil sa West Philippine Sea (WPS), base sa nakalap na impormasyon sa Palasyo.
Sa interview, sinabi ni Zubiri na binanggit ito ni President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., sa isang dinner sa Malacanang, matapos makipagpulong kay Duterte.
Sinabi ni Zubiri na binanggit ni Marcos na hindi pinag-usapan ni Xi ang isyu sa WPS sa meeting ni Duterte pero ang dating pangulo ang nagpalutan ng bagay nito sa presidente ng China.
“What he mentioned to us [during Wednesday’s dinner] was, during the duration of President Duterte’s meeting with Xi Jinping, the topic of the West Philippine Sea never was never brought up,” ayon kay Zubiri.
“According to the President, it was actually [former] President Duterte who mentioned to Xi Jinping that on the issue of the West Philippine Sea, ‘Look kindly to the Philippines,’” giit pa ni Zubiri.
Hindi naman binanggit ni Marcos ang iba pang impormasyon hinggil sa pulong ni Duterte kay Xi, ayon pa sa senador.
Ayon kay Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil, na nakipag-usap si Duterte kay Marcos hinggil sa nakaraang pulong nito kay Xi kamakailan.
“They also discussed other issues. The former President likewise gave some good pieces of advice to President Marcos,” ayon kay Garafil.
Nakipagpulong si Duterte kay Xi nitong Hulyo 17 sa Beijing ilang araw matapos ipagdiwang ng bansa ang anibersaryo ng arbitral ruling vs China na nagpatibay sa exclusive economic zone (EEZ) sa West Philippine Sea laban sa nine-dash line ng Beijing. Ernie Reyes
