MANILA, Philippines – Pinapurihan ni Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros ang Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) sa mabilis na pagkilos nito na bawiin ang lahat ng pekeng birth certificates na illegal na nakuha ng dayuhan tulad ni dating Banbam Mayor Alice Guo.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ni Hontiveros na mahalagang matiyak ng pamahalaan na walang dayuhan na makapagsamantala sa institusiyon ng bansa sa bagong taon.
“Ngayong bagong taon, dapat New Year’s resolution na ng gobyerno ang matiyak na walang dayuhan ang mananamantala ng ating mga institusiyon,” ayon kay Hontiveros.
Naniniwala si Hontiveros na marami pang dayuhan ang maaring magsamantala sa birth certificate ng Pilipinas para sa illegal na paggamit kaya’t hinikayat niya ang awtoridad na mabilis na kumilos upang tukuyin at isakdal ang may-sala.
“Let us be vigilant about efforts of POGO (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators) criminals to obtain Filipino citizenship by whatever means,” aniya.
Kasabay nito, ipinanawagan din ni Hontiveros sa OSG na ipokus ang pagbawi sa ari-arian na illegal na nabili ng POGO.
“These properties should be repurposed to provide compensation for survivors of human trafficking, in line with the provisions of the Anti-Financial Account and Scamming Act,” giit niya.
Nanawagan din ang senador sa kasamahan na kaagad ipasa ang Anti-POGO Act sa taong ito.
Samantala, hiniling din ni Senador Joel Villanueva sa Senado na ipasa ang panukalang batas na kumukumpisa sa lahat ng ari-arian ng POGO ngayong itinigil na ang kanilang operasyon sa ilalim ng Executive Order 74.
Naunang inihain ni Villanueva ang Senate Bill 2868, o ang Act Banning and Declaring the Illegal Offshore Gaming Operations.
“Under the bill, all buildings or other structures or facilities, materials, gaming equipment, and gaming paraphernalia used directly or indirectly in violation of this Act, and the proceeds of such illegal act or activity, shall be forfeited in favor of the government and may be disposed of in accordance with existing laws, rules, and regulations and the gaming equipment and gaming paraphernalia shall be destroyed by the seizing authority,” ayon sa panukala.
“We hope that this does not stop with those already identified but should expand proactively, in coordination with other relevant agencies,” giit pa ni Villanueva.
Tulad ni Hontiveros, sinuportahan din ni Villanueva ang pagkilos ng OSG na bawiin ang pekeng birth certificates na ibinigay sa foreign POGO workers.
