MANILA, Philippines – Nais ni Vice President Sara Duterte na mapahinto ang impeachment trial dahil wala itong maidedepensa laban sa mga alegasyon ng prosekusyon, sinabi ng mga lider ng Kamara nitong Biyernes, Hulyo 10.
Ito ang naging tugon nina House Deputy Speaker Janette Garin ng Iloilo, prosecutors Joel Chua ng Manila at Terry Ridon ng Bicol Saro party-list sa pahayag ni Duterte na dapat tumigil na ang pamahalaan sa pamumulitika at tugunan ang tunay na mga hinaing ng mga Filipino.
“Calling to stop all of this might be pointing to the fact na hindi ma-idepensa yung mga allegation doon,” ani Garin sa press conference.
“This is not politicking because public office comes with responsibility and accountability. The government is not stopping its provision of services to those in need. Congress, Senate are working, but we cannot be selective in our tasks,” dagdag pa niya.
Para kay Chua, matagal nang hinihintay ng publiko ang paliwanag ng Bise Presidente sa paggastos sa confidential fund at bilyong pisong bank transactions na lumitaw sa record mula sa Anti-Money Laundering Council.
“She should answer that first before saying that this is about politics,” dagdag ni Chua.
“We all saw the clear admission of the defense. The fact of the matter is they admitted that the Vice President made a threat,” sinabi naman ni Ridon kaugnay sa isyu ng pagbabanta ni Duterte kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“As to whether it is justified, it is up to the Senate impeachment court to appreciate,” dagdag ni Ridon. RNT/JGC
