MANILA, Philippines – Makikipagtulungan ang Department of Science and Technology (DOST) sa Department of Education (DepEd) at Commission on Higher Education (CHED) para buhayin ang interes ng mga estudyanteng Filipino sa science.
Sa press conference nitong Huwebes, Oktubre 23, sinabi ni DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. na isa sa mga isyu ng educational system ng bansa ay ang pagtutok sa memorization sa halip na understanding processes.
Bilang resulta, hindi mapanatili ng mga estudyante ang kanilang interes sa scientific topics dahil sa kakulangan ng oportunidad na suriin pa ang kanilang curiosity.
Dahil dito, makikipagtulungan ang DOST sa DepEd, CHED, at pribadong sektor para magtayo ng karagdagang mga laboratoryo at mga pasilidad.
“The reason why students are not into science is that they don’t have the tools, the toys to answer the questions that they have in mind… The focus now should be creative thinking and not memorization. The real problem with our educational system is that we were told to memorize a lot but we were not given the chance to really understand the process so that you don’t need to memorize anymore,” ani Solidum.
Target ng DOST na ipakilala pa ang advanced technologies katulad ng artificial intelligence (AI) systems sa mga silid-aralan.
Kasalukuyang inaalok sa K to 12 education program ang Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) academic strand para sa senior high school (SHS) students bilang paghahanda sa kolehiyo. RNT/JGC
