IT’S no surprise that Quezon City’s tax collection is so substantial and its overall revenue so high, given the excellent leadership of Mayor Joy Belmonte and her exceptional skill in selecting officials—especially City Treasurer Edgar “Edvil” Villanueva, her partners in developing and strengthening the city.
Indubitably, the QCitizens are the real winners!
In her last State of the City Address, she just revealed that the local government has contributed P1.4 trillion to the national economy in 2025, accounting for roughly six percent of the country’s gross domestic product.
The feisty mayor also presented stringent measures that effectively cut red tape and simplified government transactions.
So low-key that she is, Belmonte was quick to praise the entire City Hall workforce, again led by ‘Treas Edvil,’ for their dedication and competence in their respective jobs that resulted in record-breaking revenue collections.
Never in her vocabulary to take the credit only for herself.
“Fewer forms, easier payments, and documents delivered straight to business establishments are the results of these efforts,” said the mayor as she cited the city’s key role as a major engine of the Philippine economy.
Ranking first among all cities in the country in revenue collection for 2025, surpassing its figures from previous years, Belmonte reiterated that the city is building on this momentum by reducing paperwork, connecting government systems, and making services more accessible to business owners.
Moreover, she said QC was the first local government unit to integrate with the Philippine Business Hub, eGovPH, and the Department of Trade and Industry’s Business Name Registration System.
Extending digital payments to its 142 villages, Belmonte said that under its barangay e-payment ordinance, each village will have an electronic payment system linked to the city’s online business permit system.
These efforts have earned Quezon City Hall of Fame recognition as the Most Business-Friendly LGU from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as a Gold Asia-Pacific Stevie Award for Innovation in Government earlier this year.
