MANILA, Philippines – MAY MAHALAGANG papel ang Local government units (LGUs) sa pagtulong na mapahusay ang kalidad ng pag-aaral sa basic education learners sa Pilipinas.
Nakatakda ngayong araw ng Martes, Hulyo 1 ang gagawing paglulunsad ng Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) sa “Bayang Bumabasa: Mayors for Literacy”.
Sa inisyatiba ng EDCOM 2, hinihikayat ang mga Alkalde sa buong bansa na lumahok sa pagsusulong para sa elebasyon ng ‘foundational literacy’ sa kani-kanilang LGUs.
“Improving the quality of education is a marching order from the President (Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.), and we believe LGUs have a critical role to play,” ang sinabi ni Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara.
Ang pahayag na ito ng Kalihim ay matapos na maiulat na 52% ng Grades 1 hanggang 3 learners ay hindi pa grade-level ready pagdating sa pagbabasa ayon sa Comprehensive Rapid Literacy Assessment (CRLA) for the school year 2024 to 2025.
Kabilang na rito ang 2,851,215 mula sa 5,455,581 mag-aaral sa 18 rehiyon sa buong bansa.
“If we can scale the kind of commitment and innovation, we’ve seen in some of the top-performing LGUs, we can lift learning outcomes across the country,” dagdag na pahayag ni Angara.
“Of the total assessed learners, 47.74% were found to be reading at grade level; followed by transitioning readers at 31.14%; developing readers, 8.95%; low emerging readers, 8.57%; and high emerging readers, 3.6%,” ayon sa DepEd. Kris Jose
