LTFRB nagbabala vs PUVs na ‘di nagbibigay ng special fare discounts

MANILA, Philippines- Inihayag ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) nitong Lunes na pinaigting nito ang monitoring at response operations laban sa public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers at operators na hindi kumikilala sa special fare discounts para sa matatanda, persons with disabilities (PWD), at mga estudyante.

Binanggit ni LTFRB chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III ang mga reklamo,partikular mula sa mga pasahero ng transport network vehicle services (TNVS), ng hindi pagtalima sa 20 porsyentong special fare discount.

“Similarly, some PUV operators, including jeepneys and bus drivers, have been accused of refusing to honor valid IDs or charging the full fare, leaving passengers frustrated and disadvantaged,” aniya pa.

Giit ng opisyal, ipinag-uutos ang special discount sa Republic Act (RA) 9994, o ang Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, at RA 7277, o ang Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.

“Such practices go against the law and are a disservice to the commuting public,” wika niya.

Maaaring maharap ang operators at drivers na matutukoy na lumalabag sa mga batas na ito sa pagmumulta, suspensyon ng franchise operations, o pagbawi ng prangkisa para sa repeat offenders.

“Non-compliance with discount policies not only undermines the rights of passengers but also tarnishes the reputation of the public transport sector,” wika niya. RNT/SA
