UNITED STATES – Sinabi ni US President Donald Trump nitong Linggo, Mayo 4, na inaatasan niya ang Federal Bureau of Prisons na muling itayo at buksan ang sikat na Alcatraz prison sa San Francisco Bay “to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders.”
“REBUILD, AND OPEN ALCATRAZ!” sinabi ni Trump sa Truth Social platform.
“When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm.”
Hawak ng federal prison sa Alcatraz ang mga notoryus na kriminal sa US katulad ni Al Capone bago ito isara noong 1963.
Isa na ito sa sikat na tourist destination sa San Francisco sa kasalukuyan.
“Today, I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ,” ani Trump.
Dagdag pa niya, ang pagbubukas ng naturang kulungan ay “Just an idea I’ve had.”
“Alcatraz closed as a federal penitentiary more than sixty years ago. It is now a very popular national park and major tourist attraction. The President’s proposal is not a serious one,” pahayag naman ni Nancy Pelosi, dating House speaker at Democratic lawmaker mula sa California. RNT/JGC
