DOUBLY-concerned about the plight of their constituents, the Tiangco brothers – Rep. Toby Tiangco and Mayor John Rey Tiangco- met with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Department of Public Works and Highways officials to be updated on the status of the dredging and the necessary repairs for the Tangos-Tanza navigational gate.

“Kasalukuyan na pong hinuhukay (dredging) ang tapat ng Tangos-Tanza navigational gate.  Ito ay kinakailangan para maayos nang mabuti ang mga nasirang piyesa ng floodgate,” the Tiangco brothers said.

The navigational gate was damaged when a fishing boat was forcibly towed last June, which resulted in flooding in some barangays in Navotas.

The solon stated that as early as 2022, he had already requested the DPWH to fund the upgrade of the navigational gate. This upgrade was necessary because the gate was being overtopped during high tides of 1.8 to 2.1 meters.

                 DICT’s strict enforcement pressed

The Navotas lawmaker, House Committee on Information and Communications Technology chair, has sought for a comprehensive review by the Department of Information and Communications Technology of its existing programs and policies.

“The recent surge in cyberattacks and data breaches affecting government systems, as well as the country’s high ranking in global data breach cases, underscores the urgent need for more robust measures to protect our nation’s digital infrastructure and the data of Filipinos.”

The DICT must be able to identify and address the vulnerabilities that cybercriminals exploit, he added.

Just recently, the Department of Migrant Workers suspended its online services following a ransomware attack, disrupting critical services needed by the Overseas Filipino Workers.

                      Affordable rice price hailed

The Marcos administration’s efforts to expand access to affordable rice by increasing the number of ‘Kadiwa’ outlets offering the P29/kilo from 13 to 23 stores was laudable.

“The sustained efforts of this administration to lower the price of basic commodities, including Filipino staples like rice, shows its steadfast commitment to fulfill its promises,” Congressman Tiangco said.

Beneficiaries of the P29/kilo rice program include members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, solo parents, senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities.

Earlier, some 1,500 Navoteños were able to purchase up to five kilos of P29/kilo rice.
