NO ONE IS ABOVE TRAFFIC LAWS IN CALOOCAN

IN a bold and much-needed move, the Caloocan City Public Safety and Traffic Management Department, through its head Engr. Jay Bernardo, has issued a clear reminder: “In Caloocan, no one is above traffic laws.”

This comes in response to the worsening traffic conditions plaguing the city — a daily burden that slows down both the lives of citizens and the operations of local businesses.

The new policy underscores a strong push by Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan to bring order and discipline to the city’s roads, a challenge that many cities in Metro Manila continue to grapple with.

Traffic in Caloocan has become more than just a nuisance — it’s a systemic problem that affects productivity, mobility and public safety.

The mayor’s firm stance, aligned with his “Aksyon at Malasakit” mantra, reflects his administration’s commitment to real governance and practical solutions.

By enforcing traffic rules strictly and fairly, regardless of who the violator is, Caloocan sends a message of equality before the law — a principle that’s often missing in urban governance.

It’s worth noting that this kind of leadership is not new to Caloocan.

Mayor Along’s father, former Mayor and now Representative Oscar “Oca” Malapitan, also built a reputation for decisive public service.

The synergy between father and son continues to drive improvements in the city’s infrastructure and public order.

It’s encouraging to see that their governance goes beyond slogans and is rooted in action.

Of course, enforcement is only one side of the coin. Citizens must also play their part. As Engr. Bernardo warned, violators will not be spared — apologies or explanations won’t undo violations.

This accountability, though tough, is necessary. After all, these measures are for the greater good of Caloocan and its people, especially the next generation.

If followed through consistently, this initiative could become a model for other LGUs striving to untangle their own traffic mess.
