MANILA, Philippines – HINIKAYAT ni House impeachment adviser at prosecution panel spokesperson Robert Ace Barbers ang National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) at iba pang kaugnay na ahensiya ng gobyerno na palakasin ang pagsisikap na labanan ang Chinese propaganda na nagpapakalat ng misinformation online kaugnay sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Inihayag ito ni Barbers matapos tukuyin ang isang Facebook page, “Media Unlocked,” na kanyang inilarawan bilang source ng pekeng balita na aniya’y “shamelessly twists facts to fit its narrative.”
Inihalintulad ni Barbers ang uri ng propaganda machine na ito sa pornographic websites.
“NTC should block these China misinformation pages the same way that the government cracks down on porn sites. To follow or subscribe to these pages should be deemed unpatriotic,” ang sinabi ni Barbers sa isang kalatas.
Ani Barbers, maaaring ipag-utos ng NTC ang internet service providers (ISPs) para i- block ang sinasabing websites.
Aniya pa, bagaman limitado ang kapangyarihan ng NTC at ‘subject to legal challenges’ pa ito, pinangangasiwaan naman ng NTC ang ISPs at public telecom entities kaya samakatuwid ay maaari itong magpalabas ng direktiba na nire-require ang mga ito na i-block ang mga malisyoso at nakakapahamak na usapin lalo na’t coordinated sa Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Sinabi pa ni Barbers na dapat ding tingnan ng NTC ang partikular na Facebook page na napuna dahil sa fake news, na may kaugnay na ahensiya na may video explainers na magpapabula sa mga pahayag ng Media Unlocked.
“They should take it down, or better yet, before taking it down, an explainer from our end will discuss frame by frame the misinformation they’re spreading just like what the Chinese girl in the video is doing,” ani Barbers.
“So that even if it is seen by the Filipino youth, they will be able to discern the fake news from the real one,” aniya pa rin.
Ang video na tinutukoy ni Barbers ay ang sinasabing panghihimasok ng Philippine vessel sa “Chinese territorial waters of Huangyan Island” bilang bahagi ng “staged drama.” KRIS JOSE
