MANILA, Philippines- Iminungkahi ng Office of Civil Defense (OCD) kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang deklarasyon ng state of calamity sa Eastern Visayas (Region 8) sa gitna ng logistical at economic challenges mula sa load restrictions sa San Juanico Bridge.
Sinabi ni OCD spokesperson Director Chris Noel Bendijo na mapabibilis ng deklarasyon ang pagpapalabas ng kinakailangang pondo para sa mabilis na rehabilitasyon ng tulay upang agad ding maibalik ang mahalagang logistics at public services.
“The sooner that we repair the San Juanico Bridge, the sooner that our commerce, supplies, and logistics will be back to normal,” pahayag ni Bendijo nitong Sabado.
Matatandaang pansamantalang isinara sa mga motorista ang San Juanico Bridge matapos pairalin ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) ang three-ton weight limit noong May 14 dahil sa nasisira nang kondisyon ng tulay. Dahil dito, nagdeklara ng state of emergency sa buong lalawigan ng Samar.
Ani Bendijo, nagpatupad na ng alternative measures sa kasagsagan ng limitadong pagkilos sa tulay, kabilang ang karagdagang roll-on/roll-off vessels, pagpapanumbalik sa mga lumang pantalan, at libreng transport at passenger support.
“But this may not suffice, and we don’t want our suppliers to incur additional costs because this might impact the prices of goods,” giit ng OCD spokesman.
“The declaration will enable us to access the appropriate funds for the bridge repair. We can also fix the other ports for additional options to maintain connectivity between Samar and Leyte,” dagdag niya.
“We are also looking at subsidizing other expenses to ease the plight of our countrymen and the flow of business,” aniya pa. RNT/SA
