MANILA, Philippines – Pinuna ni Sen. Rodante Marcoleta noong Linggo ang tugon ng Ombudsman sa video ng nagbitiw na Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co, na nagsabing ang tanggapan ay humihingi ng hindi kinakailangang mga requirement mula sa dating mambabatas.
Sa pagsasalita sa unang araw ng 3-day rally na inorganisa ng Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), binanggit ni Marcoleta kung paano hinihiling ni Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla si Co na “go home first, have [the video] verified, maybe even have it notarized, make it official” bago ito tanggapin.
Ang tinutukoy ng senador ay ang video na ipinost ni Co sa kanyang Facebook page at ipinadala sa mga mamamahayag, kung saan idineklara niya na si Pangulong Marcos at dating Speaker Martin Romualdez ay nag-utos ng P100 bilyong halaga ng graft-tainted “insertions” para sa mga pampublikong gawain sa 2025 budget.
Ikinatwiran ni Marcoleta na “in the charter of the Ombudsman itself… you can file a complaint in any shape or form, even anonymously.”
“How can we show transparency and have accountability in our country when the leader of the Ombudsman office, who was the former secretary of the Department of Justice, and his prosecutor general … are the ones leading the cover-up of [corrupt officials]?” aniya.
“Will we allow this? Isn’t this an insult to us? Are you okay with being insulted?” Sinabi ni Marcoleta sa karamihan ng tao na binubuo ng mahigit kalahating milyong miyembro ng INC, na sumagot sa isang kolektibo “no!”
Kasunod ni Marcoleta, ang ebanghelista ng INC na si Arnel Tumanan ay umalingawngaw sa mga pahayag ng senador, na sinabing ang mga Pilipino ay nahati dahil sila ay “dinadaya” ng mga sangkot sa katiwalian sa gobyerno.
“Why does it seem like our country is divided? Some were deceived and became more interested in the issue of the notary, [when] the topic should have been on corruption,” aniya, tinutukoy ang notarized affidavit ng Senate witness na si Orly Guteza, na kalaunan ay pinasiyahan ng korte ng Maynila na peke.
“Some people, their focus is on the Comelec (Commission on Elections) campaign donors. Why? Because they are diverting the issue,” idinagdag niya, sa pagkakataong ito ay tumutukoy sa mga tanong na ibinangon tungkol sa hindi pagsisiwalat ni Marcoleta ng mga donor ng kampanya sa kanyang mga pahayag ng mga kontribusyon at paggasta.
“Are the ones behind the corruption tricking the public?” tanong ni Tumanan. “Because when we are divided, the brains behind the syndicate will never be found. They will never be punished for their massive theft.”
Bukod sa transparency sa mga imbestigasyon ng gobyerno, binigyang-diin din ni Tumanan ang panawagan ng INC para sa pananagutan, sinabi na “when there’s no accountability, there’s no progress. And when there’s no progress, the ones who will suffer will not be the government, but the pitiful ordinary people, like us.”
Hinikayat niya ang mga opisyal ng bansa na “not just be good at talking and [making] propaganda, [but also] in fulfilling promises and accepting accountability.”
“Remember, a leader knows how to be accountable and hold others accountable. That is a leader with dignity,” aniya. RNT/MND
