ILOCOS SUR, Philippines – Naaresto ang isang 18-anyos na estudyante mula Cavite at nasamsam ang tinatayang P680,000 halaga ng shabu sa isang buy-bust operation sa Barangay Olo-Olo Norte, Santiago, Ilocos Sur noong Lunes.
Ang suspek, na hindi pinangalanan habang hinihintay ang pormal na kaso, ay inaresto ng Police Regional Office-1 (PRO-1) at Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Nakuha sa kanya ang humigit-kumulang 100 gramo ng shabu na nakalagay sa dalawang knot-tied plastic sachets, pati na rin ang iba pang non-drug evidence.
Ayon sa pulisya, ang mga nakuhang kontrabando ay na-mark at na-inventory sa lugar sa harap ng suspek at mandatory witnesses alinsunod sa standard operating procedures.
Pinuri ni Police Brig. Gen. Dindo R. Reyes, PRO-1 chief, ang operating teams ngunit nagpahayag ng pag-aalala sa pagkakasangkot ng kabataang estudyante sa ilegal na droga.
“Seeing an 18-year-old student in custody instead of inside a classroom is a tragedy we must work to prevent. This arrest highlights the vulnerability of our youth to the illegal drug trade. We cannot do this alone. The PNP needs the active cooperation of families and schools to shield our children from these destructive influences. Let us build a community where our students are armed with degrees and dreams, not handcuffs,” ani Reyes.
Kasalukuyang nasa kustodiya ang suspek at kakaharapin ang kaso sa paglabag sa Republic Act 9165 o Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. RNT/MND
