MANILA, Philippines – Mariing itinanggi ng Department of Tourism (DOT) noong Miyerkules ang mga kumakalat online na pahayag na umano’y iniutos o inimpluwensiyahan nito ang paglalathala ng isang magazine cover at feature story na kinasasangkutan ni Secretary Christina Frasco.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng DOT na ang Philippine Topics ay isang pribadong publikasyon at “not an official magazine of the Department,” at iginiit na hindi ito nagkontrata, nagbayad, nagkomisyon, o nag-utos sa magazine para gawin ang naturang cover o artikulo.
“The content, including the selection of images and text, was produced entirely at the magazine’s editorial discretion,” ayon sa DOT.
“The DOT did not provide any photographs, guidance, or funding for the feature.”
Nilinaw rin ng DOT na ang pag-cover ng magazine sa mga aktibidad kaugnay ng World Expo Osaka 2025 ay isinagawa lamang ng editorial team nito at walang koordinasyon sa ahensiya.
“Any claim suggesting that the Department or the Secretary used public office or resources for personal promotion is false, misleading, and expressly denied,” dagdag nito.
Tinugunan din ng DOT ang mga pahayag ng isang indibidwal na photographer, at iginiit na hindi ito nagbigay ng naturang larawan at hindi rin nag-endorso ng anumang litrato para sa magazine.
“At no time did the Department instruct, select, approve, or endorse any photograph for the magazine. Any implication that the DOT chose or favored the use of an image of the Secretary over destination-focused materials is entirely false and without factual basis,” ayon pa sa pahayag.
Ipinahayag ng ahensiya ang “serious concern” sa pagkalat ng maling impormasyon, na anila’y nakasisira sa tiwala ng publiko dahil sa maling paglalarawan ng mga opisyal na aksyon at umano’y maling paggamit ng pondo ng bayan.
“The Department of Tourism remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the ethical promotion of Philippine tourism, and condemns the propagation of false and misleading information,” pagtatapos ng DOT. RNT/MND
