MANILA, Philippines- Para kay Iloilo Rep. Lorenz Defensor, maituturing na positibo ang naging pahayag ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na hindi ito makikialam sa impeachment process ni Vice President Sara Duterte dahil pagpapakita ito ng hindi pakikialam sa Kongreso.
“I’m glad to hear that the President, as the head of the Executive Department, will not interfere with the impeachment process. As the President is the most powerful man in the country, he will exert undue influence on the senator-judges and we want the senator-judges to act independently, free from any influence from the Executive Department,” pahayag ni Defensor.
Ayon kay Defensor, ang paninindigan ni Pangulong Marcos na ayaw niya ng impeachment ay magbibigay din sa 24 senator-judges ng patas na pagtingin sa proseso at sa kanilang desisyon.
“It’s good to hear that he will not be involved so that all parties will not be judged by any undue interference from any department, considering that we have a separation of powers,” ani Defensor.
Batay sa Konstitusyon, 16 boto ng senator-judges o two-thirds ang kailangan bago mapatalsik sa pwesto ang isang opisyal ng gobyerno. Gail Mendoza
