VIOLENCE against women has been one of the most pressing yet often unseen issues in society. In Western Visayas, however, concrete action is making a measurable difference.
Under the leadership of PBGen Josefino Ligan, the Police Regional Office 6 has reported a significant decline in Violence Against Women cases, reflecting the impact of focused leadership, strong partnerships and community-based policing.
Data from the Regional Women and Children Protection Desk showed that from January to November, reported VAW cases decreased from 1,846 in 2024 to 1,497 in 2025, an 18.9 percent reduction.
This improvement was more than a statistical achievement; it represents safer homes, empowered women and communities that are increasingly aware that abuse has no place in society.
The figures pointed to a sustained effort by PRO6 to strengthen both prevention and response mechanisms.
According to PCpt Jolly B. Canindo, Chief of RWCPD, the decline
was the result of intensified information drives, consistent community engagement, school-based advocacy, and stronger coordination with partner agencies and various non-government organizations.
Equally vital was the enhanced capability of Women and Children Protection Desks across the region, which now provide more responsive, sensitive and victim-centered services.
Ligan commended PRO6 units and stakeholders for their commitment, emphasizing that protecting women and children was a shared responsibility that demands vigilance and compassion.
He underscored the need to sustain these gains and remain firm in enforcing laws that uphold women’s rights and dignity.
As PRO6 continues to serve with honor and protect with courage, this milestone offers hope and reaffirms that with strong leadership and collective action, violence against women can be confronted — and reduced — in Western Visayas.
