MANILA, Philippines – Lumagda ang Presidential Communications Office (PCO) at mga print media publishers, araw ng Miyerkules, Marso 4, ng isang memorandum of understanding (MOU) para sa “Oplan Kontra Fake News,”.
Isa itong inisyatiba na naglalayong pagtibayin ang transparency at labanan ang disinformation sa bansa.
Pinangunahan ni PCO Secretary Dave Gomez ang pagpirma sa MOU sa Kalayaan Hall, Palasyo ng Malakanyang.
Sa naging talumpati ni Gomez, sinabi nito na ang “Oplan Kontra Fake News” ay makabuluhan, binigyang diin na ang ‘misinformation at disinformation’ lalo na sa social media, ay katulad ng isang “venom that poisons the hearts and minds of the people.”
Ayon pa rin kay Gomez, ang fake news ay patuloy na kumakalat lalo na sa social media kung saan marami ang naniniwala dito at naloloko.

Ayon kay Prieto, ang inisyatiba ay “timely and necessary move,” lalo pa’t natuklasan sa kamakailan lamang na survey na kinokonsidera ng mayorya ng mga pinoy na seryosong problema ang ‘fake news’ subalit mahirap na mauri mula sa tamang impormasyon.
“As organizations endowed with a mission to provide accurate information, we must not stand idly by as fake news peddlers seek to poison minds and hearts of our people and wreak havoc on our nation,” ang sinabi ni Prieto.
“Individually and collectively, we should persist in providing verified information and fight fake news with truthful accounts whenever and wherever we find them,” aniya pa rin. (KRIS JOSE)
