MANILA, Philippines- Bumaba ang Pilipinas ng dalawang pwesto sa 2024 World Press Freedom Index, sa ika-134 mula sa 180 bansa.
Umakyat ang bansa ng15 pwesto sa ika-132 mula sa 180 noong 2023.
Nakakuha ang Pilipinas ng global score na 43.36, mas mababa kumpara sa 46.21 noong nakaraang taon, ayon sa Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF) sa ulat nito na inilabas noong Miyerkules, World Press Freedom Day.
Inilarawan ng media watchdog ang Filipino media bilang “extremely dynamic despite the government’s targeted attacks and constant harassment” mula 2016.
Nananatili ang Pilipinas bilang isa sa pinakamapanganib na bansa para sa mga mamamahayag, base sa RSF.
“Impunity for these crimes is almost total. In an attempt to address this issue, the government set up a Presidential Task Force on Media Security in 2016, but this inter-ministerial body has proved unable to stem the vicious cycle of violence against journalists,” dagdag nito. RNT/SA
