MANILA, Philippines – Kasalukuyang nagdaraos ng “bilateral sail” ang Filipino at American warships sa dagat na sakop ng Palawan, ayon sa anunsyo ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) nitong Lunes, Setyembre 4.
Ayon kay Lt. Col. Enrico Gil Ileto, AFP public affairs office chief, tampok sa aktibidad ang
“robust maritime cooperation” sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa.
“The activity is done under the Mutual Defense Board – Security Engagement Board framework that aims to develop operational interoperability between the navies of the two countries,” saad sa pahayag.
Sinabi ni Ileto na ipinadala ng AFP ang guided-missile frigate ng Navy na BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150) habang ipinadala naman ng US Navy ang Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer na USS Ralph Johnson (DDG-114).
Sinabi rin niya na magdaraos din ng “division tactics” rehearsal ang Naval Task Force 41 ng AFP Western Command at US 7th Fleet para sa interoperability sa pagitan ng dalawang Navy.
“In particular, this event aims to provide an opportunity for the Philippine Navy and the US Indo-Pacific Navy to test and refine existing maritime doctrine and demonstrate their defense capabilities in line with the shared commitment of upholding peace and security in the Indo-Pacific Region,” sinabi ni Ileto.
Patuloy na lalahok ang AFP sa “bilateral and multilateral activities” na magpapalakas pa sa kapabilidad nito sa pagprotekta sa soberanya ng bansa. RNT/JGC
