MANILA, Philippines- Target ng National Security Council na lumagda ng isang Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) kasama ang Japan bago matapos ang taon.
“The arrangement with Japan, the RAA, ang target po ng ating bansa is before the end of the year mapirmahan na iyan,” ayon kay NSC Assistant Director General Jonathan Malaya sa isang panayam.
Aniya, “more countries have expressed interest” ukol sa kasunduan. Gayunman, kailangan pa rin ng sapat na panahon para rito.
“Remember, there are positions held by the DOJ (Department of Justice); there are DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) issues; ang dami pong mga internal things that have to be arranged and harmonized even before we come to that negotiating table,” ayon kay Malaya.
“Pero ang maganda naman po about this is that it’s moving at a quick pace, it’s moving at a quick pace,” dagdag na wika nito.
Kasunod ng trilateral summit kasama ang mga lider ng Estados Unidos at Japan sa Washington, sinabi ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na ang Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Japan ay malapit nang makumpleto.
“The Prime Minister of Japan and the President of the Philippines has given the instructions to our negotiators to proceed immediately, kaya naman (that’s why) we are confident that before the end of this year that RAA will be signed,” ayon kay Malaya.
Tiniyak naman ng Punong Ehekutibo na ang RAA ay hindi katulad ng Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) sa Estados Unidos nang tanungin hinggil sa kustodiya ng delingkwenteng Japanese servicemen sa lupa ng Pilipinas.
