MAKATI, Philippines – Itatampok ang mga likhang sining ng persons deprived of liberty (PDL) sa Leon Gallery sa Makati City mula Hulyo 12 hanggang 18 sa pagbubukas ng isang espesyal na auction ngayong sabado, Hulyo 19, alas-2 ng hapon.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng Bagong Buhay Group of Artists (BAGA), isang komunidad ng mga dating PDL at indibidwal mula sa mga marginalized na seksyon ng lipunan na pinag-isa ng kanilang transformative journey sa pamamagitan ng sining, na itatampok sa auction ang mga nanalo, finalists, at entries mula sa First National PDL Art Competition, na ginanap mula Hulyo hanggang Oktubre 2024, gayundin ang mga likhang sining nito.
Ang kompetisyon ay nilahukan ng mahigit 180 PDL mula sa iba’t ibang kulungan at correctional facility sa buong bansa at pinangunahan ng Justice Sector Coordinating Council.
Ang konseho ay binubuo ng Supreme Court, Department of Justice, at Department of Interior and Local Government. Nakibahagi rin sa event ang Bureau of Corrections, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, at Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Karl Miranda.
Ayon kay Miranda, ang Leòn Gallery, sa pamamagitan ng direktor nito na si Jaime Ponce de Leon, ay sumang-ayon na i-waive ang mga komisyon mula sa auction, na nangangahulugang 100% ng kikitain ay mapupunta sa mga artists ng PDL at kanilang mga pamilya.
“This auction is not only our way of giving back to the community, but our way of celebrating these up-and-coming talents in the hopes of giving them the chance to really flourish and thrive through their creativity,” sabi ni de Leon.
“Through this activity, we hope to emphasize that incarceration is not the end-all and be-all of the Philippine justice system, but rather a step toward the rehabilitation and reintegration of PDLs into society,” saad ni Joey De Leon, pangulo ng BAGA at dating PDL.
“Through this special auction facilitated by Leon Gallery, the quality of PDL artworks will be elevated so that people will patronize them not only out of empathy for their plight but also because of their artistic quality,” dagdag pa niya.
Itinatag ni De Leon ang BAGA noong 2021 upang tulungan ang mga dating PDL sa kanilang muling pagsasama sa pangunahing lipunan. RNT/MND
