PNP maghihigpit vs cigarette smuggling

MANILA, Philippines- Nangako ang Philippine National Police (PNP) na wawakasan ang cigarette smuggling kasunod ng mga ulat na nalugi ang pamahalaan ng P25.5 bilyon noong 2023 dahil sa illicit trade.

Sinabi ni PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil na ang laban sa peke at puslit na sigarilyo ay hindi lamang para sa kita o pagpapatupad ng batas.

“It is a crusade to safeguard the health of our people and ensure economic stability,” anang opisyal nitong Linggo. “We will not rest until every illicit operation is dismantled, every counterfeit product seized, and every violator brought to justice.”

Iniulat ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) na ang pagkalat ng peke at puslit na sigatilyo ay nagdulot ng 15.9 porsyentong pagbaba ng revenues noong nakaraang taon, katumbas ng P25.5 bilyon.

Mula Enero hanggang Abril ng kasalukuyang taon, sinabi ng BIR na aabot sa P6.6 bilyon ang pagkalugi.

“I have directed all concerned police units to intensify the crackdown against fake and smuggled cigarettes,” giit ni Marbil. “Our intensified efforts will include heightened surveillance, stricter border controls, and coordinated operations with other law enforcement agencies.” RNT/SA
