MANILA, Philippines – Ipinag-utos ni Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ang audit ng airport security sa buong bansa kasunod ng pagkakabaril ng isang pulis sa pasahero na umano’y tumangging inspeksyunin at sinubukan pang manaksak ng isa ring pulis sa Iloilo International Airport.
“The PNP is already working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and airport security units to immediately assess existing procedures,” saad sa pahayag ni Nartatez nitong Biyernes, Enero 30.
“The evaluation will focus on screening procedures, access point controls and emergency response protocols,” dagdag pa niya.
Sangkot sa insidente ang isang pasahero na 54-anyos na security guard mula Camiguin at patungo sana sa Davao.
Nangyari ito Miyerkules ng hapon sa pre-departure area ng Iloilo airport.
Binaril ng pulis ang pasahero sa balikat na kalaunan ay dinala sa Western Visayas Sanitarium Hospital para gamutin.
Nanindigan naman si Nartatez sa naging aksyon ng pulis at sinabing: “We want to assure the public that our airports are safe. The police officer acted to neutralize an immediate threat and protect lives.”
“We do not hesitate to act if there’s a clear danger to the public, but we always follow the proper process and the rules of the use of force,” dagdag pa nito.
Ayon sa PNP chief, inalis ang initial security screening sa pre-departure area ng Iloilo Airport noong nakaraang taon para pabilisin ang usad ng mga biyahero. RNT/JGC
