MANILA, Philippines- Nagsasagawa ang Philippine National Police (PNP) ng “recalibrated” approach upang labanan ang ilegal na droga na tututok sa mga source sa halip na street-level pushers and users.
Ayon sa PNP chief, Police General Rommel Marbil, idinisenyo ito upang mas maging epektibo at hindi madugo ang kampanya sa pamamagitan ng pagpapahalaga sa human rights ay pagtugon sa ugat ng problema sa droga.
“Our previous strategies concentrated too much on cutting off the heads, but we need to target the body— the entire supply chain and the sources driving the drug trade,” pahayag niya nitong Linggo.
Kasama umano sa recalibrated strategy ang pinaigting na intelligence operations at mas malakas na community engagement.
“We are now focusing on high-value drug personalities and the movements of illegal drugs across the country. These are the real targets—those who orchestrate the trade and profit from it, not the street-level pushers and users, who are often victims of circumstance,” wika ng PNP chief.
“We aim to address the drug problem without resorting to bloodshed. By focusing on the real culprits and protecting the victims, we can make our communities safer while respecting human rights.”
Binago ang istratehiya mula sa kampanya ni dating Pangulong ang Rodrigo Duterte., na nabahiran ng extrajudicial killings na umano’y isinagawa ng mga pulis at unknown assailants.
Mahigit 6,000 ang napaslang sa kampanya laban sa ilegal na droga, base sa mga pulis. Subalit, maaari umano itong umabot sa 60,000, batay sa pagtataya ng human rights groups.
Ayon kay Marbil, nakahanay ang bagong istratehiya sa layunin ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na mas ligtas na Pilipinas.
“With this approach, we are not only saving lives but also working toward a better future for our nation. We are committed to addressing the drug issue with compassion, strategy, and adherence to the rule of law,” aniya. RNT/SA
